Who is responsible for which portion of the Standards? Educators teaching grades K-5 are responsible for all components included in the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts. This includes preparing students appropriately in reading, writing, speaking, listening and language. In grades 6-12, where there is usually more than one teacher per class, the standards are divided into content area specific standards. Educators in these grades are responsible for the standards related to the material they are teaching.
