Who is responsible for which portion of the Standards?  Educators teaching grades K-5 are responsible for all components included in the Common Core State Standards for English Language Arts. This includes preparing students appropriately in reading, writing, speaking, listening and language. In grades 6-12, where there is usually more than one teacher per class, the standards are divided into content area specific standards. Educators in these grades are responsible for the standards related to the material they are teaching. The Common Core is a set of learning standards many schools adopted in order to ensure that they appropriately prepare their students for the future. Before the development of Common Core, school districts would each set their own expectations they believed are necessary to help students succeed in the real world. These expectations were usually broad – hard to reach and varied considerably from state to state. This caused achieving students to be unprepared for schools, colleges and jobs out for their state. Education experts worked hard to tackle this problem and established one set of standards, known as the Common Core. With the establishment of the Common Core State Standards we now have guidelines which focus on core learning skill students must acquire in order to succeed in any given school, college and job.
