Week 4 - Assignment 1 - Gaming Literacies

Game: ABC Mysteriez
Gaming Elements: Gaming is one of the new media that is used to enhance literacy in the classroom. ABC Mysteriez is an engaging literacy game in which students practice recognizing and naming all upper and lowercase letters. Students perfect foundational reading skills as they search for hidden alphabets.
Text: In order to understand the rules and goal of this game, players must read the instructions and menu before beginning to play. Students can also customize their board by playing around with the various options - such as sound and music volume and design, before they begin to play.
Visual-graphic elements: While playing ABC Mysteriez students explore numerous beautiful pictures and develop an eye for detail as they look for disguised characters. Students exercise their visual imagery techniques and spatial skills.
Audio elements: Students can customize the sound and music volume of their game.
Goal of the game: Find alphabets hidden among objects.
Rules of Playing this game: Students must use the magnifier or mouse to locate hidden letter among objects. They can double click the left-mouse button to turn the magnifier button on, off or use the magnifier button at the bottom panel. After a given time frame the game is over, students are given a certain amount of points based on the number of letters they spotted. Students are then taken to the next level. If students click twice on the same letter, they lose 10 seconds of their game. They must try to remember which letters they have already spotted. (A good idea is for students to write down what letters they located – it’ll help them score higher while simultaneously learning how to write the alphabets.)
Scenario Design: ABC Mysteriez has a fabricated scenario design to promote the player’s paying motivation.
